I have a new Y2K Savage, have spent $800 on it so far in customizing
and havent made the first payment yet! But to your question, I removed
the spacer in the carb BEFORE I went insane, knowing that they had
restricted it in such a way. Its more for the EPA, not for HP, but it
sure helped the way "FrankenHead" runs! Heres what we did:
Took off seat and tank.
Removed four screws in top of carb(I had to chisel them out, hitting
them with a sharp chisel in the direction they turn...They used Loctite
or some other form of space-age glue..buggered up the heads but they went
back in.)
CAREFULLY removed rubber diaphragm, noting position so I could put it back!
Under there you should see the needle running through a plate with 2 tiny screws
in it-under that plate is where the white plastic spacer is! Take out the
screws, remove the assembly and take the spacer off the needle, allowing it
to come further up, OUT of the jet, allowing more gas to pass through, resulting
in a fatter burn and more HP. Course a new pipe helps too!
Anyway, reassemble in reverse order, careful not to pinch the diaphragm.
You'll also notice a great decrease in the backfire that my EX-mechanic told
me this bike was supposed to do.(no engine is SUPPOSED to backfire, tough on
pipes, valves, gaskets, everything...but a little is ok). For me, removal of the
spacer was a must, though I did not like wrenching on my brand new bike. Went
back together no prob, gave me all and more. Hope this helps. "Stay on 2 Wheels" -Steve E
